Extending the Portrait into Voice

Bloom is a podcast series extending Dutch artist Dagmar van Weeghel's acclaimed photographic portrait series into sound. During the sessions that produced Bloom's portraits, it became clear the conversations themselves carried something the camera couldn't: voice, contradiction, hesitation, things left unresolved.
As one of the women portrayed in the original series, Lys hosts the series, each episode centered on a shared theme rather than a single biography. Bloom is not an advocacy project, it's a conversation on contemporary Afro descendent womanhood in Europe, built in dialogue with the generations who crossed borders before there was a vocabulary for "identity" or "belonging" at all.
